The Real Alcázar of Seville is located in front of the Seville Cathedral. It was built during the Early Middle Ages (9th century), since then its architectural changes have been constant.

It is divided into several areas: Puerta del León, Hall of Justice, Mudéjar Palace, Patio de Banderas,…

In 1987, UNESCO decided to declare this Palace a World Heritage Site. In addition, one of its Mudejar-type palaces built by King Pedro I, has been the setting for series and films such as Game of Thrones, The Kingdom of Heaven, The Plague…

The best-known Arab cistern

If you want to visit the Real Alcázar of Seville you cannot miss its wonderful underground cistern, located under the Patio del Crucero. Known as the María Padilla Baths because of the legend behind it.

Legend has it that María Padilla, the lover of King Pedro I, cooled off in these waters.

The cistern can reach a difference of up to 15 degrees with the outside temperature of Seville on its hottest days.

The Dolls’ Courtyard

This room of the Real Alcázar of Seville owes its name to the seventeen faces of dolls carved on the stucco arches. Sevillian tradition says that if you find them you will be very lucky.

Shall we find them together?

The Courtyard of the Maidens

Another room that we are going to discover is the Patio de las Doncellas.

Among one of its many legends, it is said that the name is due to the payment of a tribute of 100 Maidens. It is also said that said patio, being the central axis of the palace, was the place of reception of the guest and where the maidens would always be waiting to serve them.

Construction of great antiquity

The land on which the Alcázar of Seville stands was occupied by Roman and Visigoth settlements. The Arabs built on this space for the residence of their rulers.
